Comparing the “Stans”

There are seven countries in the world that end in “-stan” and each is located on the continent of Asia. The suffix “–stan” is derived from a Persian word that means “land”.

The seven countries in alphabetical order are: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

Step by Step instructions:

1. 1.     Log into the website
2. 2.     Scroll down the page until you see “All Asian countries” (blue links)
3. 3.     Click on the name of the “-Stan” country and go to the country page
4. 4.     Select “Facts” link (also in blue)
5. 5.     Copy data from “Fast Facts” (exports and agriculture are on the bottom of the page)
6. 6.     Collect data for at least 2 of the Stans: we will be sharing data and using data to draw asumptions in class tomorrow.
